Hailing from the mighty H-Town (Hamilton), Aoteoroa (New Zealand), KATCHAFIRE, have become a global roots reggae phenomenon. The all Maori Reggae band, bring their pure classic sound to music lovers worldwide, delivering one of the most authentic Reggae shows around today.
Four highly successful studio albums, multiple awards, platinum sales, highest selling singles, and the list goes on.. Their sound is built on the foundations of classic roots reggae with an R’n’B and funk rub, mashing modern dancehall and slinky reggae pop. Katchafire has crafted a universal vibe, capturing something truly special in a diversity of instrumentation and clarity of sound.
Built on a family movement, It all started when lead guitarist Grenville Bell, father of Lead Singer Logan Bell & Drummer / singer / songwriter Jordan Bell, moved into an apartment building in town with his then teenage sons where they could make music all night, and the rest is history.. Countless jams and sell out concerts later they are now an 8 piece collective of multi talented songwriters and musicians and have become a staple on the Californian and Pacific Roots scenes. The fire just continues to get hotter following invitations to acclaimed events such as Glastonbury, opening circuits through Europe, Portugal and Brazil, as demand continues to grow for the non-stop feel good vibe of their incredible live shows.
Maoli (meaning “Native” in Hawaiian) started in Maui with Glenn Awong, a 14-year-old with a passion for music, and Kana Akiu-Corpuz. In their sophomore year, the aspiring vocalist and bassist began writing original music at the encouragement of their high school teacher. It was also during this time that Glenn started recording demos of his songs. By the time he reached his senior year, Glenn was ready to share his music with a greater audience.
In 2005, Glenn and the band he formed, “No Boundaries”, won a Battle of the Bands competition on the island of Maui. With numerous performances already under his belt, Glenn then formed Maoli in 2007 with a new lineup of talented musicians, including bassist, Kana.
Maoli took the islands by storm in 2008 with their debut album entitled, “Groovin” having one hit after the next (“No One”, “Write Me A Letter”, and “So Incredible”); this was the groundbreaking album that first established the group as a premiere Hawaiian Island Reggae recording band. In 2010, Maoli did it again with their 2nd release, “Rock Easy”, featuring another treasure trove of #1 hits “Breaking My Heart”, “Whisper” and “Rock Easy”. Their 3rd album entitled “Arise” took to a national and international audience exploring Maoli’s love for various genres of music. “Blew it”, “Something about your love” and “Time to get over” are jus some of the diverse hits that this album displays. Maoli’s road to success continued as they toured the islands and the world promoting their very own unique Island sound.
In 2012 Maoli welcomed new band member, guitarist & vocalist, Nu’u Sing-Kahalehau. Nu’u hails from a background of musicians, including his father, Shane Kahalehau otherwise known as the “Hawaiian Homeboy”. But Nu’u isn’t a stranger to Maoli, as his talents were also featured on the “Rock Easy” album.
Maoli also embarked on a new journey in 2012 in touring on a national level. In order to capture a wider spread audience, they have traveled from California to New York and beyond. They have toured with some of the biggest and most world renown acts in reggae music such as J Boog, Katchafire, Fiji and others to name a few.
The boys have recently dropped their newest EP entitled “One Eighty” and a 4th album to follow. Singer-songwriter Kimié (pronounced Kim-mi-Yay) Miner creates an inimitable musical style that dresses the listener in a flowing mu’umu’u at sunset on a cool Hawaiian beach easily mistaken for Paradise. Growing up on an island, surrounded by the ocean, is a formative experience that can be heard throughout her work; it gives her songs a loose, down-to-earth feel, and imbues her lyrics with natural imagery. Her parents, of Hawaiian and Portuguese decent, noticed her affinity for music at a very young age; in her words, “It is my mother, my brother, my best friend, and my first love. No matter where I am in my life, I know I can always turn to music.” Inspired by jazz and R&B-influenced individualists like india.arie, Lauryn Hill, and Erykah Badu, Kimié taught herself guitar at age 14 and began writing songs as a form of self-expression that also tap into themes that transcend ethnicity, gender, and age.
Her songwriting matches life events with particular melodies and moods, and “the words follow.” Kimié champions the idea that anyone, from any walk of life, remain true to who they are and to approach their experiences and heritage with pride. For instance, her songs regularly evoke the Hawaiian concept of the Piko: the “naval” or “center” which represents a home base to which one can always return, whether it be a tree, a taro plant (kalo), or a beach. She notes that “As Hawaiians, we have our roots and our routes. We know who we are, and we use that to navigate and explore.”
Coming hot off of a world tour as a special guest lead guitarist/vocalist, Jordan T finished off about 5 months of Global touring with the New Zealand band, Katchafire. Headlining his own #BridgesTour2015 of the west coast later in 2015, he's had the chance to spread the message of Aloha and Island Reggae Fusion vibes nation wide both as a solo artist and a backing support.
As a solo artist of Hapa (halfbreed) Austronesian/Dutch ancestry with island roots in Maui, it was a busy past 3 years playing lead guitars around America for the local band Maoli. He got his start playing solo looping sets at local bars and party's around the islands. With the drop of his Original #1 Hit Single, "Sunset Tonight" in 2013, Jordan T worked his way onto the local and international radio stations, pushing him to bigger stages. He recently had opportunities to play International Music Festivals such as Rototom Sunsplash (Spain), Chiemsee Summer (Germany), SummerJam (Cologne, Germany), and American reggae festivals like Reggae on the River, California Roots Festival, Trenchfest (Guam). Jordan T had a chance to share the same stages or tour with bands/artists such as Katchafire, Jimmy Cliff, Major Lazor, Anuhea, Soja, Damien Marley, Maoli, Hirie, Common Kings, Fiji, Collie Buddz, Irie Love, Ali Cambell (UB40), Kimie, Ekolu, Rebel Souljahz, The Green, J Boog, Bobby Mcferrin, Mick Fleetwood, Michael Shrieve, and many more.
My Name is Dana Piʻilani Arias. From the age of sixteen I felt a connection to music and became a full-time musician by the age of twenty. My passion for music covers all genres but especially Hawaiian and Reggae. As years went on I realized that writing and composing music came natural to me. I have played live performances from luau shows, clubs and up to large concerts all over the world and enjoyed it all.
